Pipeline Preview: Honeywell looks to remain unbeaten

August 13th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (Nationals' No. 14), Harrisburg at Hartford (1:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Read delivered a pair of clutch solo home runs for Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday, hitting a game-tying shot in the sixth inning followed by a go-ahead blast in the eighth as the Senators defeated Hartford, 4-2, in Game 1 of a doubleheader. It was the third career multi-homer performance by the 23-year-old catcher, who's already hit a career-high 13 homers this season while slashing .262/.306/.442.

Pitcher to watch: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 1), Durham vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Honeywell, No. 14 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list, hasn't lost in six starts for Triple-A Durham, going 4-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings. The 22-year-old righty has lowered his ERA from 4.91 to 3.74 during that stretch, all while limiting hitters to a .229/.278/.347 slash line. For the season, Honeywell owns a 3.55 ERA with 155 strikeouts and 32 walks in 119 innings (22 starts).

Duel of the day: Dillon Peters (Marlins' No. 4) vs. Touki Toussaint (Braves' No. 15), Jacksonville vs. Mississippi (3:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Peters is set to make his fourth start for Double-A Jacksonville since returning from the fractured thumb he suffered in his April 17 start. In his previous three turns, the 24-year-old lefty worked a combined 16 innings, allowing six earned runs while walking six and striking out 11. Before that he made a pair of scoreless starts in the Florida State League, where he permitted five hits and struck out nine over 10 2/3 scoreless frames.

Toussaint may be 0-2 in his two starts since being promoted to Mississippi, but the 21-year-old right-hander has thrown the ball well in both outings: tossing a six-inning complete game in his Southern League debut and then striking out nine over five innings in his subsequent turn. Overall, Toussaint has held opposing hitters to a .245 average while piling up 136 strikeouts in 116 1/3 innings (21 starts) between Mississippi and Class A Advanced Florida.
