Casali sustains head contusion on backswing

July 7th, 2016

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays catcher Curt Casali exited Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels after the sixth inning when he suffered a contusion on the right side of his head.
Hank Conger came into replace Casali, who was 0-for-2 with a strikeout before exiting. Casali said the injury came when he was hit on the head in the fourth inning by a Jefry Marte backswing. It was just a bruise, though, and Casali did not undergo any concussion testing.
"It just didn't feel good," Casali said. "Just a little bruise. See how it feels [Thursday]."
Rays manager Kevin Cash said they will evaluate Casali Thursday morning prior to their 12:10 p.m. ET game against the Angels.
In the third inning, Casali made a highlight-reel catch in foul territory on a popup by C.J. Cron.

Casali is hitting .169 with six home runs and 18 RBIs.
