Longoria sits; Souza returns to lineup

Third baseman day to day with plantar fasciitis

MIAMI -- and Steven Souza Jr. are dealing with injuries that Major Leaguers often deal with that can also keep them out of the lineup.
Longoria did not start Monday night's game against the Marlins due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
"My foot's been really bothering me," Longoria said. "Dealing with the plantar fasciitis... There's never an excuse to take a day off, but at some point, I was feeling like I'd have to. Today works out."
Two years ago, Longoria dealt with the same pain in his right foot, so he understands how to manage it.
"I'll just deal with it and take it day to day," Longoria said. "Hopefully it will be better tomorrow."

Longoria said he initially began to deal with the pain in Spring Training.
"For the most part, it's kind of up and down," Longoria said. "Hopefully I'll have better days than worse."
Souza, meanwhile, returned to the lineup on Monday after exiting Saturday's game when he got hit by a pitch on his left hand. He took swings on Sunday but did not play. Souza did so again on Monday and felt good enough to start.
Souza, who got hit while not wearing his hand pad, said he will not make that mistake again.
