Pipeline Preview: Honeywell seeking another gem for Durham

September 9th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (Yankees' No. 6), Scranton/Wilkes-Barre vs. Lehigh Valley (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Andujar, MLB Pipeline's No. 98 overall prospect, went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI on Friday to help lead Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre past Lehigh Valley, 4-2, in Game 2 of the International League semifinals. The 22-year-old third baseman is 4-for-11 with three extra-base hits so far in the best-of-five series, which is currently tied at one game apiece.

Pitcher to watch: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 1), Durham at Indianapolis (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Honeywell returned from a brief suspension to toss 5 1/3 scoreless innings and record the win in his final regular-season tune-up for Triple-A Durham. The performance capped a 10-start stretch in which the No. 12 overall prospect posted a 1.79 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 10 walks in 50 1/3 innings. The 22-year-old right-hander could secure for Durham a trip to the International League finals with another strong outing, as the Bulls enter the weekend with a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five semifinals series.

Duel of the day: Eric Lauer (Padres' No. 8) vs. Heath Fillmyer (A's No. 19), San Antonio at Midland (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Lauer carried a perfect game into the sixth inning in his last start for Double-A San Antonio en route to completing seven one-run frames. He struck out nine, one shy of his career-best, and generated another nine outs on the ground. The 22-year-old lefty finished his first full season with a 3.30 ERA and 132 strikeouts and 36 walks in 122 2/3 innings. The Missions currently lead Midland, 2-1, in the best-of-five semifinals.

Fillmyer, 23, allowed three or fewer earned runs for Midland in nine straight starts down the stretch to finish the season with a 3.49 ERA in 149 2/3 innings across 29 starts. The 6-foot-1 righty is plenty familiar with San Antonio's lineup after going 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA in seven starts against them during the regular season.
