Red Sox announce hirings in baseball ops

January 30th, 2017

The Red Sox announced a series of personnel moves in their baseball operations department on Monday -- hiring Spencer Bingol as baseball research and development analyst, Fred Hubert as senior baseball systems developer and J.T. Watkins as advance scouting assistant while naming Patrick McLaughlin Minor League video/Florida baseball operations assistant.
Bingol will analyze pitch tracking data to assist Brian Bannister, the team's vice president of pitching development and assistant pitching coach, and Dave Bush, Boston's pitching development analyst.
Hubert's duties will involve developing software applications for Red Sox baseball operations with senior baseball systems development lead Mike Ganley. Hubert previously worked with fellow Red Sox senior baseball systems developer Eric Edvalson at the company Skillsoft.
Watkins is a former catcher and 10th-round Draft pick by the Red Sox in 2012, as well as the son of Red Sox amateur scout Danny Watkins. He will work with the Red Sox's Major League coaching staff and assist with their advance scouting, and he will also be the team's in-game instant replay coordinator.
McLaughlin has been in the Red Sox's organization for the past two years, interning for player development and advance scouting. He will oversee Boston's Minor League video operations and baseball administration at the team's Spring Training facility in Fort Myers, Fla.
