BOS-TOR postponed; split DH on Aug. 7

Red Sox's Richards, Blue Jays' Ray will start Wednesday in Sahlen Field finale

July 20th, 2021

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tuesday night’s game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays at Sahlen Field was canceled just prior to the scheduled first pitch due to thunderstorms in the area.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Aug. 7 with Game 1 beginning at 3:07 p.m. ET and Game 2 beginning at 7:07.

The location will change, though, as the Blue Jays are finally returning home to Toronto and Rogers Centre, where they’ll play their first true home game in 670 days on July 30.

Robbie Ray will make his scheduled start in Wednesday night’s series finale for the Blue Jays, who will skip over Tuesday’s scheduled starter, Thomas Hatch. On the Red Sox's side, Garrett Richards will be pushed back a day and start the series finale. Wednesday’s game will be the final one played at Sahlen Field this season.

These will be key games between the Blue Jays (48-43) and Red Sox (57-38) as they continue to battle it out in the American League East, with Toronto seven games back. Boston has left-hander Chris Sale working his way back on a rehab assignment, so this division should be one of the best races in baseball down the stretch, with the Rays (55-39) and Yankees (48-44) also involved.

“Those who purchased tickets for tonight’s game through the Blue Jays will be automatically refunded to the original payment method; a credit should appear in as soon as 30 days,” the Blue Jays said in a news release. “Tickets for tonight’s game will not be valid for either game of the doubleheader on August 7.”
