Foot keeps Duvall out, but All-Star not concerned

CINCINNATI -- Foul balls off the foot are often painful, but the one Reds left fielder took off his left foot Monday vs. the Marlins got him in a spot he's been slow to recover from. Duvall missed his second straight game on Wednesday vs. Miami.
"I'm not [worried]," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "We've done all the testing and stuff to verify there was no fracture. There is a lot of nerve endings right down there. It's just one of those spots where you really don't want to get hit, because it's going to be sore for more than 24-48 hours."
Duvall was wearing a walking boot around the Reds' clubhouse after Tuesday's game and did not take batting practice again on Wednesday. He indicated it was not a serious injury, which was echoed by Price.
"Immobilizing it, I think, was a way of not re-igniting the soreness," Price said. "It's probably the quickest way to get him feeling better. I certainly know going into it that it will be more than a couple of days. But I don't think it's something, at this point in time, that is worthy of a [disabled list] stint."
Rookie started in left field again for Duvall.
In the midst of an All-Star season, Duvall is batting .243/.295/.518 with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs in 110 games. Although he has two homers over his last 17 games, he appeared poised to escape a lengthy funk when he went 7-for-15 over the final five games of the Reds' last road trip.
"Timing is everything, isn't it?" Price joked about the injury coming just as Duvall seemed to be improving.
