Pipeline Preview: Siri looks to extend hitting streak

July 26th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Jose Siri (Reds' No. 24), Dayton at Lansing (7:05 p.m. ET)
Siri enters Class A Dayton's game with a 30-game hitting streak, the longest in the Minor Leagues this season. One of three Midwest League players to have ever accomplished the feat, the 22-year-old center fielder is hitting .348 with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored during his streak. Overall he's slashed .293/.337/.517 in 91 games, and he's the only Minor Leaguer with at least 16 home runs and 29 steals this season.

Pitcher to watch: (Rays' No. 24), Durham at Buffalo (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Yarbrough struck out a career-high 13 batters in his last start for Triple-A Durham. Working six innings, the 25-year-old left-hander allowed two earned run on four hits while throwing 62 of his 91 pitches for strikes. He's 5-0 in his last six starts for the Bulls, and 10-4 in 19 starts this season, during which he's pitched to a 3.52 ERA with 118 strikeouts and 29 walks in 115 innings.

Duel of the day: (White Sox No. 3) vs. Kohl Stewart (Twins' No. 9), Birmingham at Chattanooga (7:15 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
No. 12 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list, Kopech tossed eight scoreless innings for a win on July 20, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. More important was the fact he didn't walk a batter, the first time all season the 21-year-old right-hander has done that. Kopech leads the White Sox with his .197 batting average against, and his 114 strikeouts puts him second. He's struck out an impressive 11.1 per-nine-innings this year.

Stewart, meanwhile, is 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA in five starts since returning from a stint on the disabled list for left knee tendinitis. While the 21-year-old righty has never missed the number of bats scouts expected he would after being taken fourth overall in the 2013 Draft, he has continued to post excellent ground-ball rates while making a steady climb up the ladder.
