On cold night, some f-f-firsts for Fuentes

With temps dipping, he gets initial KC hit, Gatorade shower

April 9th, 2016

KANSAS CITY -- Royals right fielder Reymond Fuentes experienced a lot of firsts on Friday night.
Fuentes got his first hit as a Royal, his first RBIs as a Royal and his first postgame Gatorade shower courtesy of Salvador Perez, the latter experience somewhat unpleasant considering temperatures had dipped into the 30s.
"Oh, man, that was cold," Fuentes said afterward. "I got back here in the clubhouse and I still had ice cubes in my pants."
But Fuentes wasn't complaining. His two-run single in the second inning gave the Royals a 2-1 lead on their way to a 4-3 win over the Twins.
It was Fuentes' first hit in the big leagues since Sept. 28, 2013, when he was with the Padres.

"That felt really good," Fuentes said. "It was great to help the team out."
The Royals secured the ball from his first hit as a Royal, and Fuentes was anxious to show it off to his parents, who waited outside the clubhouse.
It has been a long journey for Fuentes, a former first-round pick of the Red Sox who has toiled in the Minors for most of the last seven seasons. A strong Spring Training elevated him to the 25-man roster.
"That is how he swung in spring for us," manager Ned Yost said. "He's a good little player. He puts the bat on the ball."
Fuentes came up with Perez on third and Omar Infante on second and the Twins leading 1-0. Facing Ervin Santana, who is known for his changeup and slider, Fuentes guessed he might get a fastball on the first pitch.
"I wanted to be aggressive," Fuentes said.
Fuentes got a fastball and lined a bullet into right field, easily scoring both runners.
"Like I said, it's just nice to contribute," Fuentes said.
