Mets-Rox postponed; DH on Saturday

April 17th, 2021

Tied for the worst 13-game start in team history, the Rockies will get another day to regroup. Wintry weather forced the postponement of Friday night’s scheduled opener of a three-game set with the Mets at Coors Field. The teams will play a traditional doubleheader on Saturday.

The first seven-inning game will begin at 3:10 p.m. MT, with the second starting 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first. The Rockies have announced that scheduled Friday night starter Chi Chi González will start Saturday's opener and scheduled Saturday starter Germán Márquez will start the nightcap.

Both teams have had their issues.

The Mets have played just four times in the past eight days. Their season-opening series in Washington was postponed because of COVID-19 issues on the Nationals' side, and they’ve had rainouts against the Marlins and Phillies. Thursday’s scheduled game against the Phillies was the latest rainout, then they arrived in Denver to snow.

The Rockies’ problems are more baseball-related. They went 0-6 on a National League West road trip against the Giants and the Dodgers, and they are now 3-10, matching the 2005 and '19 clubs for the worst starts.
