Prospect Dahl blasts first Major League HR

July 28th, 2016

BALTIMORE -- Two batters after 's two-run homer ended Orioles starter 's no-hitter in the sixth inning of Wednesday's 3-1 win, Rockies No. 2 prospect blasted his first career home run -- a two-out solo shot -- to give Colorado a 3-0 lead. It chased Bundy from the game.
Dahl smacked a first-pitch changeup to dead center that left the bat at 100 mph and traveled an estimated 401 feet from home plate, according to Statcast™.
"I was just going up there trying to stick to the middle of the field and hit a line drive," Dahl said. "Just left the changeup up, and I was ready to hit. And just took a good swing and fortunate to get one out of here."
Dahl, who was called up on Monday, showcased his power in the Minor Leagues, belting 18 homers in 92 games this year. He was especially good in 16 Triple-A Albuquerque games where he hit .484 with five homers and 16 RBIs.

"I talked about the sneaky power, and he goes dead center," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "It's surprising the power, but it's legitimate."
It was a strong first impression for Dahl in a Rockies uniform. The 22-year-old singled in his third career at-bat on Monday and has recorded a hit in each of his first three Major League games.

Asked how his homer compared to the first hit, Dahl couldn't decide.
"They are both awesome," Dahl said.
His career started in a wacky way with his luggage not arriving for his Monday debut. He used a variety of equipment from teammates, but he hasn't let an odd beginning spoil his first series in The Show.
"What a nice way to start your career," Weiss said.
