DENVER -- It was a special Saturday night for Melissa Gonzales and Christian Altamirano.
They accompanied Rockies manager Walt Weiss to home plate for the exchange of lineups before the game with the Mets as the Rockies celebrated Play Ball Weekend.
When the Rockies players and coaches lined up for the national anthem in front of their dugout, they found Gonzalez and Altamirano among the 30 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver waiting for them and eager to participate in a cap exchange.

The kids were wearing Rockies adjustable caps. The Rockies then exchanged autographed caps with the kids next to them after the conclusion of the anthem.

Play Ball Weekend is an extension of the Play Ball initiative, which launched in 2015 as the sport's largest effort to encourage widespread participation in both formal and casual baseball and softball activities.
