Pint is a hard-throwing right-hander from Overland Park, Kan., whose fastball can touch 100 mph. He was ranked the No. 2 overall prospect entering the Draft by MLBPipeline.com after posting a 0.43 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 49 innings. He also possesses a changeup and knuckle-curve, as well as a traditional curve.
Pint signed with Louisiana State but will forgo the scholarship to turn pro. An announcement of his deal with Colorado is not expected before Wednesday.
Worth noting
• Infielder Colton Welker, the Rockies' fourth-round pick from Parkland (Fla.) Stoneman Douglas High school, has agreed to an $850,000 bonus -- well above the $541,800 for which the pick was valued in the MLB slotting system. Welker, a power-hitter who played shortstop in high school but is expected to move to a corner position, has power and average potential. He had signed with the University of Miami out of high school and some teams might have avoided him earlier because they thought he would be difficult to sign.
• Ninth-round pick Justin Calomeni, a right-handed pitcher from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, agreed to the slotted bonus price, $171,400.
• Outfielder Vince Fernandez, the 10th-round pick from University of California Riverside, has agreed for $160,100, also the pick value.
