Royals claim Olson off waivers; Transfer Moustakas to 60-day DL

The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have claimed left-handed pitcher Tyler Olson off waivers from the New York Yankees. Olson will be assigned to Omaha (AAA). To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals have transferred third baseman Mike Moustakas to the 60-day disabled list (torn anterior cruciate ligament).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals have transferred third baseman Mike Moustakas to the 60-day disabled list (torn anterior cruciate ligament).
Olson, 26, has made 11 appearances and three starts for Scanton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA) this season, going 1-2 with a 5.27 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. He made one appearance with the Yankees this season at the Major League level, tossing 2.2 innings of relief vs. Seattle on April 15. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft and made 11 appearances out of the bullpen for Seattle in 2015. Olson was designated for assignment by the Yankees on June 7.
