Fan favorite community programs return; Royals Charities Golf Tournament set for April 17

The Kansas City Royals will begin their 2017 home schedule as they host the Oakland Athletics (April 10-13), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (April 14-16) and San Francisco Giants (April 18-19). Throughout the first homestand, Greater Kansas City Day (April 10), Autism Awareness Day (April 14) and Jackie Robinson Day (April 15) will all take place. The Royals Charities Golf Tournament is scheduled on the second off day of the homestand. Please see below for more details.
 
ROYALS OPENING DAY: Monday, April 10 - Oakland Athletics vs. Royals, 3:15 p.m.

  • Greater Kansas City Day - For the 30th year, the Royals team up with more than 1,200 volunteers for the annual Greater Kansas City Day event. Throughout the morning, volunteers will sell a special Royals edition of The Kansas City Star and a "Raised Royal" flag at various locations in the greater Kansas City area. For a donation of at least $10, fans can get the exclusive flag from Price Chopper locations or by going to www.royals.com/gkcday. In addition, a First Pitch Party featuring live music, coffee, donuts, flag sales and appearances by Royals and Chiefs alumni will be held at Union Station. Proceeds from the sales help send kids to Rotary Youth Camp and support other deserving children's charities. 
  • Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat Program Returns - The Royals begin the eleventh year of the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat program by honoring Victor Baez, a Royals field coordinator in the Dominican Republic who played a key role in the lives of Yordano Ventura and other young players. FOX Sports Kansas City will again partner with the Royals by featuring Buck Seat honorees during FSKC home telecasts. The Royals invite fans throughout the Midwest to nominate individuals they feel are worthy of filling "Buck's seat" by visiting www.royals.com/buckseat.  
  • Salute to Service presented by Miller Lite - The Royals and Miller Lite will salute a member of the military during each home game by providing complimentary tickets and a special in-game recognition. Fans are encouraged to nominate an active or retired military member by visiting www.royals.com/salute.
  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - The fan favorite Royals Charities 50/50 Raffle is coming back for another season and will be held throughout every Royals home game. Royals Charities staffers will continue to sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. The other half will be donated to Royals Charities. www.royals.com/5050.

  • Autism Awareness Night - The Royals join Major League Baseball in raising awareness for autism by hosting Autism Awareness Night. Throughout the evening, the Royals will highlight new initiatives that have been added to the stadium, including Quiet Zones and Exceptional Concession Stands, to provide a more inclusive environment. Participants in the First Pitch, National Anthem, Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat and the "Play Ball" kid will all have connections to the event. Several displays, including a "sensory tent," will have information and activities available in the Outfield Experience.
  • Green Team - During select games throughout the season, local organizations and volunteers who sign up to be a part of the Royals Green Team, sponsored by Republic Services, will help collect aluminum and recyclable plastics at the stadium gates as well as throughout multiple innings of the game. 

Saturday, April 15 - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Royals, 6:15 p.m.

  • Jackie Robinson Day - On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier with his historic MLB debut. Every year on April 15th, our game honors Jackie's legacy by celebrating his life, values and accomplishments. All 30 MLB clubs wear the number "42" as a powerful, unified tribute to the Jackie Robinson legacy. To learn more, log on to jackierobinson.org or mlbcommunity.org. In addition, all 30 clubs will have #42 jerseys up for auction, with proceeds benefiting the Jackie Robinson foundation which has produced 1,450 scholars with a 98% college graduation rate.   • Glove Event - During Royals batting practice, 500 metro area baseball and softball players will receive their first new glove in honor of Jackie Robinson day. A Royals player will join Ryan Lefebvre to a question-and-answer session following batting practice.

  • Royals Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament - Royals Charities is set to host the tenth annual Royals Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament featuring current and former Royals at the Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, Kan. Sponsors, including DEMDACO, Edelman & Thompson, MillerCoors, Pepsi, Price Chopper, Sprint and The University of Kansas Health Systems, who purchased foursomes will have the opportunity to golf with Royals celebrities, enjoy great food and beverages provided by local restaurants and win fantastic prizes. All proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics Kansas City.  

Tuesday, April 18 - San Francisco Giants vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.

  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A portion of the proceeds from the nightly Royals Charities fundraiser will benefit Charlie's House. The organization will also distribute information outside the Royals Charities headquarters. www.royals.com/5050.

Wednesday, April 19 - San Francisco Giants vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
