Royals recall Soler, Torres for added depth

September 5th, 2017

DETROIT -- The Royals took advantage of the expanded September rosters by adding two more players for added depth on Tuesday, recalling outfielder and shortstop from Triple-A Omaha.
They join infielder , outfielders and , as well as catcher Cam Gallagher, who were all called when rosters expanded on Friday. The Royals also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher , while right-hander was activated off the DL. In addition, pitcher Sam Gaviglio was claimed off waivers from the Mariners.
Both Soler and Torres have bounced between the Royals and Omaha this season, and both enjoyed strong finishes to their Minor League seasons.

Soler said he got in a lot of work with Omaha hitting coach Tommy Gregg. Soler was able to get a lot of good at-bats, which is what he wanted to accomplish there.
Soler finished with 24 home runs with the StormChasers, 13 of which came after he was sent down in mid-July. Perhaps the best of those homers came against Dodgers ace , who made a rehab appearance for Oklahoma City on Aug. 28.
"[He threw] two cutters down that I was able to lay off, and I was ready for a fastball," Soler said. "He threw me a fastball up in the zone that I was able to make good, hard contact on."
Torres finished with a .292 average, 41 RBIs and 17 stolen bases for Omaha.
Worth noting
• After taking a few days off to nurse a mild right forearm strain, closer is ready to return to action, manager Ned Yost said before Tuesday night's game against the Tigers.
"[Herrera is] feeling pretty good. He went out today and played catch and felt great, so he'll be available if we need him," Yost said.

• Reliever (oblique) and starter Danny Duffy (elbow) are inching closer to making their returns as well. Yost said there is no timetable for when they will be back in action, but both are expected to begin throwing off the mound on Wednesday.
