Blue Jays hope Martin will return Wednesday

Catcher has not played since Friday due to neck spasms

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays hope to have catcher Russell Martin back in the lineup Wednesday night against the White Sox after he missed several games because of neck spasms.
Martin received another day off Tuesday night, but he was never expected to play with R.A. Dickey on the mound. Backup catcher Josh Thole got the start, as he typically does when the veteran knuckleballer is scheduled to pitch.
Toronto is still considering Martin day to day, but if he doesn't play Wednesday then he should be ready to go Friday night at Tampa Bay, which follows a club off-day on Thursday. The Blue Jays do not expect Martin to require a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
"Not at this point, no," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday afternoon. "We're hoping he'll be ready tomorrow. If not tomorrow, we'll get him through the off-day, and he should be fine. That's the plan anyways."
Josh Donaldson got another start at designated hitter on Tuesday night. He has been dealing with a sore left thigh after he was struck by a pitch from Oakland's Liam Hendriks on Saturday afternoon. Donaldson seems likely to start another game at DH on Wednesday before returning to the field on Friday.
Infielder Matt Dominguez got the start at third base in Donaldson's absence. Dominguez was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Tuesday night's game against the White Sox. Dominguez took the spot of right-hander Drew Hutchison, who was optioned to Buffalo.
