PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Padres had an off-day Wednesday. Manager Andy Green's precise instructions were to "enjoy your family, your friends or a round of golf." But James Shields, Robbie Erlin and Luis Perdomo were back at the office.

Shields pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a Minor League scrimmage -- an outing which keeps him in line to start the Padres' second game of the season. He threw 59 pitches, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three.
