Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg appears ready to test the free-agent market after the 2016 season.
Strasburg's agent, Scott Boras, told FOXSports.com on Monday the club and his client are not in active talks regarding a contract extension.
"We amicably agreed to a one-year deal [for 2016]," Boras said. "He's going to pitch, and we'll see where it goes from there. It's something we'll be discussing at the end of the year."
Strasburg will make $10.4 million this season before likely becoming the top player available in free agency.
The right-hander, who turns 28 in July, is 54-37 with a 3.09 ERA in 132 career starts in six seasons, all with the club that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2009 Draft. He threw 127 1/3 innings last season while battling neck and oblique strains, but he made at least 28 starts each year from 2012-14 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in '11.
"The Nationals have done a great job with him," Boras said. "They've listened to the doctors, and all you can ask of a team is that they listen to the doctors. They have. Stephen and the team have benefited from that."
Boras also told FOXSports.com that Strasburg is fully recovered from minor October surgery to remove a non-cancerous growth from his back, and said that his offseason workouts have been normal.
