Pearce gets platelet rich plasma injection

BOSTON -- Orioles outfielder met with Dr. David Altchek and received a platelet rich plasma injection to his right elbow/forearm on Wednesday. Manager Buck Showalter said most players recover from the injection differently, but he believes it generally takes two to three days.
"I'm optimistic he'll be able to do some things for us again this season," Showalter said. "We're not going to do anything until the season is over with anything he may have. So we'll try to rehab it and get him back on the field."
Pearce injured himself on an outfield throw during the Orioles' 12-2 loss to the Red Sox on Monday. The outfielder was acquired by the O's from the Rays on Aug. 1 in exchange for Minor League catcher . Pearce is batting .217 with three home runs and six RBIs in 25 games since joining Baltimore.

was at Fenway Park on Wednesday after being placed on the Orioles' taxi squad, and the club has 24 hours to decide whether they will select his contract from Triple-A Norfolk.
Janish was outrighted to the Tides on June 21 after batting .194 in 14 games while filling in for the then-injured shortstop , and he accepted the assignment to Triple-A instead of electing to become a free agent. The infielder slashed .248/.333/.280 with 18 RBIs in 76 games with Norfolk.
• Showalter said right fielder will likely be activated on Monday. The 25-year-old was placed on the 60-day DL with a right thumb ligament injury.
