Only a pitch limit could deliver a knock against Taylor Widener on Sunday, as the Yankees prospect delivered five no-hit innings for Class A Advanced Tampa before getting pulled after 60 pitches.
Widener, the No. 17 prospect in the Yankees' system, was perfect for five innings against the St. Lucie Mets outside of a walk to leadoff man John Mora in the fourth inning. Widener faced the minimum thanks to Mora's failed steal attempt to end the fourth.

Widener was a reliever while pitching in college at South Carolina and was converted to a starter after the Yankees selected him in the 12th round of the 2015 Draft. He was pulled after throwing 60 pitches due to a pitch limit, according to Tampa Yankees radio announcer Nick Flammia. Durability has been an issue for Widener in the past, as he underwent ulnar transposition surgery on his pitching elbow in the fall of 2015 and experienced back and knee issues in college.

The five scoreless innings improved Widener's ERA to 3.62 on the season, which he has spent entirely in Tampa. His 115 strikeouts and 109 1/3 innings pitched both lead the team.
Tampa's bid at a combined no-hitter would eventually end in the eighth inning when reliever David Sosebee, making his Class A Advanced debut after a promotion Saturday, yielded a single to third baseman Michael Paez. Among the Mets to finish hitless was Tim Tebow, who struck out twice.
