Tigers announce 2016 Opening Day roster

The Detroit Tigers today announced their 25-man roster for 2016 Opening Day. The Tigers Opening Day roster consists of 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, four outfielders and one designated hitter.

The Detroit Tigers today announced their 25-man roster for 2016 Opening Day. 

The Tigers Opening Day roster consists of 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, four outfielders and one designated hitter. Detroit begins the 2016 season on Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m. at Miami. 

The Tigers 25-man Opening Day roster is as follows: 

PITCHERS (12): RHP Buck Farmer, RHP Shane Greene, RHP Logan Kensing, RHP Mark Lowe, RHP Mike Pelfrey, RHP Francisco Rodriguez, LHP Kyle Ryan, RHP Anibal Sanchez, RHP Drew VerHagen, RHP Justin Verlander, LHP Justin Wilson and RHP Jordan Zimmermann 

CATCHERS (2): James McCann and Jarrod Saltalamacchia 

INFIELDERS (6): Mike Aviles, Miguel Cabrera, Nick Castellanos, Jose Iglesias, Ian Kinsler and Andrew Romine 

OUTFIELDERS (4): Tyler Collins, Anthony Gose, J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton 

DESIGNATED HITTER (1): Victor Martinez 

The following roster moves were made today to set the 25-man Opening Day roster: purchased the contract of RHP Logan Kensing; placed RHP Jeff Ferrell on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff impingement, retroactive to March 25; placed LHP Blaine Hardy on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder impingement, retroactive to March 25; placed OF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist fracture, retroactive to March 25; placed RHP Angel Nesbitt on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain, retroactive to March 25; placed LHP Daniel Norris on the 15-day disabled list with a left lumbar spine fracture, retroactive to March 25; placed RHP Alex Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with right rotator cuff capsulitis, retroactive to March 25.
