Aviles injures wrist diving for grounder

June 15th, 2016

CHICAGO -- Tigers utility man Mike Aviles left Tuesday's 11-8 win against the White Sox in the eighth inning after injuring his left wrist, but he doesn't anticipate it being a problem.
Aviles dove for Jose Abreu's ground ball at third base, but he came up wincing after rolling over on his left wrist.
"As far as I know, I'm day-to-day," Aviles said. "I don't know anything else. I know how I feel. I'm sore, but I'll probably be fine in the morning. I don't see it being a problem going forward."
Aviles injured the wrist in 2004 and has aggravated it in the past, so he said any similar pain can be worrisome.
After the game, Aviles marched out of the visitors' clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field with a team trainer to get an X-ray.
Aviles stood at his locker a few minutes later with what, for now, seems to be good news. Aviles said there is no break in his wrist and compared the injury to rolling an ankle in a basketball game.
"It's always a relief," Aviles said. "Anytime there's no break in anything, you're always happy to hear."
As of Tuesday night, there was no official word on his status for the future.
