19 of club's top prospects on roster for Padres Futures Game

October 6th, 2016

SAN DIEGO -- No doubt, Padres fans have spent the past few months envisioning top prospects like Cal Quantrill, and taking the field at Petco Park.
On Friday, those high-ceiling youngsters get to do exactly that for the first time.
In a first-of-its-kind Padres Futures Game, San Diego's top prospects will square off with the top Rangers youngsters on Friday night at Petco Park. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. PT, and the game is free and open to the public.
Earlier this week, the Padres unveiled their roster for the game, and it's loaded with some of the best young talent the organization has to offer. Nineteen of the club's top 30 prospects are listed on the roster and six of the top 10. Those six include -- right-hander Espinoza (No. 1), first baseman Naylor (No. 4), right-hander Quantrill (No. 5), left-hander Adrian Morejon (No. 6), shortstop Javier Guerra (No. 7) and left-hander Eric Lauer (No. 9).

Both Espinoza and Quantrill are expected to pitch for the Padres' squad, which will be managed by Class A Fort Wayne skipper Anthony Contreras. The team's other lineup plans remain unclear. San Diego acquired Espinoza in July in exchange for left-hander , and it acquired Lauer with the No. 8 overall pick in the June Draft.
The Padres Futures Game roser is 67 players deep, and is comprised of the players who have been participating in instructional ball at the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz. A handful of those players will visit Rady Children's Hospital before Friday's game.
When the Major League Padres visited the D-backs last weekend to wrap up their season, manager Andy Green made the trek to Peoria to speak with the youngsters.
"The more time you spend around those guys, the more you appreciate them and the more you get to know them," Green said. "They've all got unique stories, and some of them are going to be real special in a Padres uniform someday."
