NEW YORK -- Tuesday's scheduled game between the Indians and the Yankees at Yankee Stadium has been postponed due to inclement weather. The clubs will instead play a single-admission doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.

Trevor Bauer had been lined up to start for the Indians against Jaime Garcia. They are now set to face off in the first game of Wednesday's twin bill, with Ryan Merritt and Jordan Montgomery opposing each other in the nightcap.

"Some guys are probably going to have to play 18 innings," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "The off-day [Tuesday] is nice, but from a physical standpoint, that takes its toll. It is what it is, and you've got to handle it."

Girardi said that by inserting Montgomery into the rotation, he now plans to have CC Sabathia on the mound Thursday for the opener of a crucial four-game series against the American League East-leading Red Sox. It is the last time the clubs will meet during the regular season. New York entered Tuesday 3 1/2 games back of Boston.

"I think anytime we play them, especially right now and chasing them, it's always a big deal," Sabathia said. "It's always big games. We just want to come out and have a good series. It does seem weird that we're not going to play them all of September."

Only tickets dated Wednesday, Aug. 30, will be valid for the doubleheader. The second game will start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. All Yankee Stadium gates will open to fans with valid tickets at 11:30 a.m.

Fans holding paid tickets for Tuesday's postponed game may exchange their paid tickets for any regular-season game at Yankee Stadium through the end of the 2018 season (subject to availability). Exchanges may be made at Yankee Stadium ticket windows beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Tuesday's "Cap Night presented by Cooper Tires" promotion will be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined. For complete information about the Yankees' rainout policy, please visit www.yankees.com/rainout.
