MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins announced on Friday that right-handed prospect Nick Burdi will undergo Tommy John surgery after suffering a torn right ulnar collateral ligament.
Burdi, who is Minnesota's No. 16-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, missed most of last season with a bone bruise. This year for Double-A Chattanooga, Burdi had appeared in 14 games and posted a 0.53 ERA.
The hard-throwing 24-year-old struck out 20 batters and walked four over 17 innings. Since being selected in the second round of the 2014 Draft, Burdi has recorded a 3.20 ERA in 80 appearances in the Twins' Minor League system.
