CHICAGO -- The Brewers bolstered their bullpen in the wake of Tuesday's doubleheader by extending right-hander Tyler Cravy's big league stay.
Cravy, called up to serve as Milwaukee's "26th man" for the team's first doubleheader this season, remained with the team Wednesday after the Brewers optioned first baseman Andy Wilkins to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Brewers needed relief help after the bullpen covered 10 1/3 innings on Tuesday, including Cravy's two innings in Game 1, and 8 1/3 innings from five pitchers in Game 2 after Chase Anderson exited with an injury.
Cravy worked a scoreless sixth inning in the Brewers' 6-1 loss on Wednesday.
Every reliever on the roster but Carlos Torres saw action in the two games. It left manager Craig Counsell in the rare position of being a bit thin.
"We've had eight relievers for most of the season, which has helped," Counsell said. "And the guys down there have really pitched well, which has helped. So we haven't had that situation a lot."
Cravy is in his third stint with the Brewers this season. He has a 4.97 ERA in 12 2/3 innings in the Majors and a 5.91 ERA in 21 games in the Minors.
