Umpire exits in 1st after foul tip hits mask
Dodgers-D-backs game continues with 3-man crew
PHOENIX -- Home-plate umpire Dale Scott left Saturday's Dodgers-D-backs game in the bottom of the first inning after taking a foul ball off the mask.
Scott was hit on the second pitch thrown by Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy, a foul tip off the bat of Jean Segura. After being looked at by a trainer, Scott left the field through the Los Angeles dugout.
First-base umpire Lance Barrett took over behind the plate, and the game continued with a three-umpire crew into extra innings, with the D-backs coming out on top, 2-1, in the 12th.
It wasn't the first time Scott has left a game due to injury. He also took a foul tip off the mask in a 2013 game between the Mariners and the Blue Jays. Last year, he was struck by a line drive in a game between the Rangers and the Athletics.
