Umpire Layne forced to exit Blue Jays-O's game

BALTIMORE -- In the bottom of the third inning Wednesday with the Blue Jays leading the Orioles by three runs, Toronto starter delivered a pitch that glanced off catcher 's glove and hit home-plate umpire Jerry Layne in the mask.
Orioles trainer Richie Bancells examined Layne, and he was removed from the game, which Toronto won, 5-3. Alan Porter, who was behind the plate Monday, moved from second base to home plate.
The game proceeded with a three-umpire crew.
