White Sox get good news on Rodon, Petricka

Second opinion on young lefty's shoulder confirms no structural damage

March 28th, 2017

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The news was predominantly positive for the White Sox in terms of a couple of injury updates provided Tuesday at Camelback Ranch.
received a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Monday concerning tightness in the biceps tendon area, and it confirmed the MRI he received Friday showing no structural damage with a diagnosis of bursitis. Rodon will be placed on a throwing program for the next two weeks and then be re-evaluated, but he will begin the 2017 season on the disabled list.
"It was good. I had a good day yesterday, figured some stuff out and are going with the plan we've got now," said Rodon, who plans to resume playing catch on Wednesday and will stay back in Arizona when the team breaks camp. "It's based on how I feel, how I push it.
"I'll try to take it slow. And if everything feels good, I want to be back with these guys as soon as I can."
Rodon struck out five over four scoreless innings on March 19 against the Angels, which ended up as his lone Cactus League start. He was scratched from his last start against the A's on Friday, ultimately leading to the second opinion.

"For sure, it was reassuring, especially going to see the second doctor, and everything ended up well," Rodon said. "Our training staff does a great job. Thank god for them."
Reliever Jake Petricka was struck on the outside of the right hand by a line drive Monday, but X-rays were negative. Petricka seemed upbeat and relieved on Tuesday, adding he planned to throw later that morning and then make his scheduled relief turn this weekend in Milwaukee.
"I was upset at the time because last outing, I didn't want to end that way, but we got great results on the X-ray, and we're all good to go," Petricka said. "Just a little bruise, and we'll work through it. I can move it and do everything. It's just keeping the inflammation down and staying active.
"I've been happy with the performance I've been putting out there and ready to get in the real games now. I plan on not missing a beat. Just a little soreness, nothing we're not used to."
