CHICAGO -- Avisail Garcia gave himself a 26th birthday by driving in three runs to boost the White Sox to a 10-7 series-opening victory over the Orioles on Monday night.
Garcia, who has blossomed this season to post a .333 batting average that currently ranks third among American League hitters, went 2-for-5 with a double.
"I'm focused, and working hard every day," Garcia said. "Every at-bat, I'm trying to do my best to help my team to win. I have my swing right now and I've had it for a little bit, but I'm going to keep working on it. It's a long season. I'm just trying to swing at strikes and not trying to do too much, because when I do too much nothing happens."

The Orioles haven't won a road game since a 13-11 win at Detroit on May 16, with Monday marking the 10th consecutive loss away from home for the club.
The White Sox chased Orioles starter Wade Miley (No. 43 overall, 2008 Draft, Southeastern Louisiana University) after 53 pitches and 2 1/3 innings, scoring six runs -- including a four-run third inning -- and forcing a Baltimore starter to go fewer than three innings for the third consecutive game.
Chicago broke through in style, as catcher Kevan Smith (seventh round, 2011 Draft, University of Pittsburgh) launched his first big league homer to give his team a 2-0 lead in the second. Jose Abreu, Garcia and Matt Davidson (No. 35 overall, 2009 Draft, Yucaipa HS) helped to add on in the next inning, as the three combined to bring across four more runs to knock Miley out of the game.

'I just sucked," Miley said. "It's as simple as that. I feel like everything I threw up there, they put a barrel on. That's all there is to it. That game's on me. We've got to be better as a starting staff. We've got to be better individually. That's not acceptable."

Despite plenty of run support, White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey (No. 9 overall, 2005 Draft, Wichita State University) managed to go just 3 2/3 innings while allowing a pair of runs. The Orioles inched closer in the eighth, scoring four runs in the eighth off Gregory Infante on a RBI single and a three-run Trey Mancini homer, but wouldn't get closer than three runs as the game ended on Jonathan Schoop getting thrown out trying to stretch a RBI single to a double.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Never forget your first: Smith got Chicago on the board in the second inning, taking Miley's first-pitch fastball the other way and driving it a Statcast-projected 427 feet to right-center field for his first Major League home run. It was the first "barrel" of the game, according to Statcast™, and one of three that Chicago had in the game's first five innings. Chicago hit six balls off Miley with a measured exit velocity greater than 100 mph, and eight in the game's first five innings as it jumped to a 9-2 lead.
"That was pretty exciting because it was his first," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "It looked like the fan threw it into Adam Jones and he got it into our bullpen. If I could thank him personally I would for him to help Smitty get that ball. That's a pretty classy act." "It was kind of a surreal moment," Smith said.
"You come up through high school and in the Minors trying to figure stuff out and you watch the guys like [Adam] Jones, [Mark] Trumbo. Chris Davis steps up to the plate and congratulates me. It's one of those moments where you have to step back and say, 'Wow.' It's one of those days I'm going to remember for the rest of my life.'"
Shutting the door: Even when staked to a 6-2 lead, Pelfrey wasn't able to get through the order a third time. He left with a pair of runners on and two outs in the fourth inning and Baltimore slugger Manny Machado (No. 3 overall, 2010 Draft, Brito Miami Private School) due up. White Sox reliever Jake Petricka (second round, 2010 Draft, Indiana State University) got his fellow 2010 draftee to strike out and end the rally.
"As the innings progressed you could see him getting a feel," said Renteria of Petricka's second outing since coming off the disabled list. "He was settling in and I think he was happy with what he did. He felt like he was himself."

Abreu has played 23 career games against the Orioles and has 12 multi-hit efforts in those 23. He has 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored in those 23 games.

UNDER FURTHER REVIEW
Schoop cut into the White Sox lead with a two-out RBI single in the ninth, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double on a throw from center fielder Willy Garcia. The Orioles challenged the call, but the call stood and the game was over.

WHAT'S NEXT
Orioles:Alec Asher (2-4, 4.35) makes his fourth start Tuesday since returning to the starting rotation on May 28. He's posted a 9.49 ERA in his last three starts. He threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief against Chicago earlier this season. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET.
White Sox:Derek Holland (4-6, 3.99) makes his 13th start of the season and fifth at Guaranteed Rate Field. Holland is 1-4 with a 6.19 ERA over his last six starts, compared to a 2.02 ERA over his first six starts of the year.
