Melky placed on pat list; W. Garcia joins Sox
The White Sox placed Melky Cabrera, who is expecting his fourth child, a girl, on the paternity list Friday. The team recalled outfielder Willy Garcia from Triple-A Charlotte.
Cabrera can come off the paternity list after one day or remain on it for as many as three. Chicago opens a weekend series against the Twins at Target Field on Friday.
Garcia has yet to make his Major League debut. The 24-year-old has been raking at Triple-A, batting .423 (11-for-26) with two home runs, six RBIs and a 1.251 OPS over his first seven games of the season.
The White Sox claimed Garcia off waivers from the Pirates in January. He had spent the past seven years in the Bucs' Minor League system after signing as a free agent in 2010. Last year, Garcia was named the Defensive Player of the Year for Pittsburgh's Triple-A affiliate.
