Nationals offered Ramos contract extension

September 22nd, 2016

NEW YORK -- The Nationals have offered catcher a contract extension, a baseball source told MLB.com on Thursday. However, the source said that the offer was made "during the beginning of the season" and that the parties have not spoken in some time. The club did not confirm the report.
According to a report at TodaysKnuckleball.com, the offer was for three years at around $30 million, short of what Ramos' camp is seeking.
Ramos, who is eligible for free agency after this season, is having a career year, hitting .303 with 21 home runs, 79 RBIs and a .352 on-base percentage. It definitely seems to have helped that the 29-year-old had Lasik surgery during Spring Training.
"I can see everything clearer," Ramos said in June. "I can see the difference. I know it helped me recognize the pitch better. That's for sure."
Ramos also credits Dusty Baker for helping him concentrate solely on baseball, saying the manager would tell him that he will make his money once he becomes a free agent.
"He is a big man in this organization, and he has a lot of experience," Ramos said of Baker. "I want you to go and have fun. I don't want you to think about a contract. He said, 'If you play well, the money will come.'"
