X-ray negative on Norris' elbow

PHOENIX -- Padres catcher Derek Norris was out of the starting lineup Tuesday night in Arizona, but he appears to have suffered no ill effects from the left-elbow injury that forced him to exit Monday's game.
X-rays on Norris' elbow taken Monday night came back negative. He sustained the injury in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Brandon Drury's backswing caught Norris arm.
"He's fine," said Padres manager Andy Green. "He was asking to play today. He's caught four [days] in a row anyway, so he's down today."
It sounds as though Norris will return to the starting lineup Wednesday, after backup catcher Christian Bethancourt was given the start Tuesday night.
Norris, who is batting .267 with six dingers since the start of June, was struck in the funny bone, and felt some temporary numbness. But that had subsided by Tuesday afternoon.
"Expectation is he'll be out there tomorrow," Green said. "[It] just made sense to give him a day today after that happened. Just caught a nerve funny. And you get hit in that spot, it's just awkward for a while. But there's no break or anything like that. He feels substantially better today."
