Severino expected to spend time in Minors

Activated from DL, Yanks righty to work on secondary pitches, command, according to Girardi

BALTIMORE -- Luis Severino started Friday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the first time since being reinstated from the disabled list Monday, but a return to the Majors doesn't appear to be imminent.
"I think there's some work that has to be done," manager Joe Girardi said as the Yankees prepared to open their three-game series at Camden Yards.
"There's some work on the secondary pitches that needs to take place. There's work on the command that needs to take place, and we want to get that nailed down before we make any moves."
Severino tossed 3 2/3 innings in his start, allowing two hits and three runs with four strikeouts and three walks. He threw 67 pitches, 46 for strikes.
Severino was 0-6 with a 7.46 ERA in seven starts for the Yankees this season and was placed on the 15-day DL with a triceps strain May 14.
Michael Pineda (2-6, 6.41 ERA) has also struggled this season, but the right-hander was solid Thursday in the Yankees' 5-4 win in Detroit, throwing 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Had Pineda had another poor outing, his spot in the starting rotation may have been in jeopardy, but Girardi said it wouldn't necessarily have gone to Severino.
"I wouldn't assume that it would have been him," Girardi said, listing Chad Green, Luis Cessa and Richard Bleier as alternative options.
