PHOENIX -- The D-backs made the most surprising free-agent signing this offseason when they inked Zack Greinke to a six-year, $206.5 million deal, and they further signaled their commitment to be competitive in 2016 by trading for right-hander Shelby Miller.
Those two highlight a host of newcomers the D-backs will have in camp. Part II of the D-backs' Spring Training preview takes a look at some of the new faces:

RHP Tyler Clippard: The most recent of the additions, the D-backs signed Clippard just over a week before the start of camp. The durable reliever is expected to pitch in a setup role for Brad Ziegler, but he does have closing experience.
Greinke: The right-hander was arguably the biggest prize in a loaded market for free-agent pitchers, and the D-backs caught everyone off guard in outbidding the Dodgers for his services. Coming off a year in which he had a 1.66 ERA, Greinke will be expected to provide veteran leadership on an otherwise young staff.
C/OF/INF Chris Herrmann: The D-backs acquired the versatile veteran in a deal with the Twins last November. His versatility -- in addition to catching he can play the corners in the outfield and infield -- could help him land a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Miller: Despite adding Greinke, Arizona felt it needed another quality arm for the rotation and gave up a lot to acquire Miller from Atlanta. The right-hander pitched better last season than his record would indicate and the D-backs are counting on him to be a workhorse behind Greinke.
INF Jean Segura: Acquired in January from the Brewers, Segura will battle with Nick Ahmed and Chris Owings for playing time at either shortstop or second base, with Phil Gosselin and Brandon Drury also in the mix at second. The D-backs like Segura's speed and feel he will bounce back after a pair of down seasons.
RHP Tyler Wagner: The 25-year-old was acquired in the Segura deal and will be given a look as the D-backs try to sort out the back end of their rotation. Wagner made his big league debut last year when he appeared in three games for Milwaukee.
