The Oakland A's recalled first baseman Matt Olson from Nashville and outrighted catcher Ryan Lavarnway to Nashville, the club announced today. Lavarnway was designated for assignment on Saturday.

The Oakland A's recalled first baseman Matt Olson from Nashville and outrighted catcher Ryan Lavarnway to Nashville, the club announced today. Lavarnway was designated for assignment on Saturday.
Olson joins the A's for the sixth time this year and is batting .198 with four home runs and nine RBI in 18 games over his previous five stints. He was most recently with Oakland from July 21 to 23 and had a pinch hit single in his only game. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter was batting .272 with 23 home runs and 60 RBI in 79 games with Nashville. He is tied for fifth in the Pacific Coast League in home runs but his ratio of 12.78 at bats per home runs is the best mark in the PCL. Olson has appeared in 10 games in right field and five at first base with the A's but has 73 games at first base and one at third base with the Sounds.
Lavarnway was selected from Triple-A Nashville July 27 for his second stint with the A's this year and went 3-for-9 (.333) with two RBI and a walk in five games, including three starts at catcher. He is batting .273 in six games overall with Oakland and is also hitting .262 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 67 games with Nashville.
