D-backs acquire Blale Swihart and international bonus pool money from Red Sox for Marcus Wilson

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired Blake Swihart (@BLAKESWIHART_1) and international bonus pool money for the 2018-19 signing period from the Red Sox for OF Marcus Wilson. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.

Swihart, 27, was a member of the Red Sox 2018 World Series championship team and has played parts of the last 5 seasons for the Red Sox, logging time at catcher (129 games), left field (23), right field (14), first base (11), third base (3) and second base (1).

Against righties, he is a career .274 hitter (116-for-424)/.328 OBP/.406 SLG with 24 doubles, 4 triples, 8 homers, 48 RBI and 34 walks. In 29 career pinch-hit appearances, he owns a .280 average (7-for-25) with 4 RBI, 3 walks and 1 hit-by-pitch.

This season, he appeared in 12 games and hit .231 (6-for-26) with 1 double, 1 homer, 4 RBI, 2 walks and 1 hit-by-pitch.

In 2018, he played in 82 games and hit .229 (44-for-192) with 10 doubles, 3 homers, 18 RBI and 15 walks. In 2016, he made his first Opening Day roster and start at 24 years old before missing a majority of the season due to injury. He debuted with the Red Sox in 2015, appearing in 84 games and hitting .274 (79-for-288)/.319 OBP/.392 SLG with 17 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homers, 31 RBI and 18 walks.

In 2014 at Triple-A Pawtucket, he was named a Baseball America Minor League All-Star after entering the season as the Red Sox's No. 10 prospect by MiLB.com. In 2013-14, he was named a Red Sox organizational All-Star by MiLB.com.

He was the Red Sox's first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2011 draft out of V Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, N.M.

Wilson, 22, played parts of 6 seasons in the D-backs organization (2014-19). He was the D-backs’ Competitive Balance Round B pick in the 2014 draft.
