D-backs recall Jon Duplantier from Triple-A Reno; option Taylor Clarke to Reno

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled RHP Jon Duplantier(@dup_thereitis) from Triple-A Reno and optioned RHP Taylor Clarke to Reno.

Duplantier (pronounced: doo-PLON-tee-AY), 24, is in his third stint with the D-backs this season, having made 3 scoreless appearances (8.0 IP) with 1 save, 3 hits allowed and 7 strikeouts. He tossed 4.0 scoreless innings with 1 hit and 4 strikeouts in his last outing with Arizona on April 28 vs. the Cubs.

Duplantier made his Major League debut on April 1 @ Padres and earned a 3.0-inning save, becoming the second D-back to earn a save in his first career game (also: Byung-Hyun Kim on May 29, 1999 @ Mets), and the first pitcher to record a 3.0+ inning save in his debut since the Rays’ Dale Thayer on May 22, 2009.

In 4 starts with Reno this season, Duplantier has gone 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (4 ER in 9.1 IP), .133 opponent average and 10 strikeouts. He entered 2019 rated as Arizona’s No. 2 prospect by both MLB.com and Baseball America, as well as earning a Top 100 accolades by both publications (No. 67 by MLB.com; No. 84 by Baseball America).

Clarke, 25, has gone 0-1 with 1 save and a 2.00 ERA (2 ER in 9.0 IP) in 2 games (1 start) with the D-backs in 2019. He made his first Major League start on May 7 @ Rays, yielding 2 runs over 6.0 innings.
