D-backs select Alex Young from Triple-A Reno, transfer Steven Souza Jr. to 60-day injured list, optioned Stefan Crichton to Reno following yesterday's game

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks selected LHP Alex Young (@AlexYoung_23) from Triple-A Reno and transferred OF Steven Souza Jr. to the 60-day injured list (left knee injury) after optioning RHP Stefan Crichton to Reno following yesterday’s game. The 40-man roster is at 40.

Young, 25, will make his Major League debut and wear No. 49. He was the D-backs' second-round pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of TCU, where he was part of the 2015 College World Series team. He was also teammates with D-backs’ Minor Leaguers Kevin Cron (2013-14) and Stefan Crichton (2013) during his time at TCU.

Young made 8 starts at Triple-A Reno this season and went 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA (21 ER in 32.2 IP), .294 average and 39 strikeouts. Overall, in 20 games (8 starts) at Reno, he was 4-3 with a 6.09 ERA (37 ER in 54.2 IP), .292 average and 64 strikeouts.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pounder, in parts of 2 seasons with Reno (2018-19), pitched in 40 games (20 starts) and went 9-7 with a 6.01 ERA (90 ER in 134.2 IP), .298 average and 125 strikeouts.

Over 5 seasons in the D-backs’ organization (2015-present), he has appeared in 104 games (75 starts) and gone 28-25 with a 4.34 ERA (216 ER in 448.0 IP), .267 average and 375 strikeouts.

Crichton, 27, held opponents scoreless in 7 of 8 relief appearances for the D-backs with a 4.50 ERA (5 ER in 10.0 IP), .194 opponent average, 11 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Souza, 30, was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 27, retroactive to March 26.
