Accelerating at speeds above 90 MPH, the best drone pilots on the planet will race custom-built DRL drones at the pace of a fastball, flying FPV (First Person View) through a neon-colored, 3D track around Chase Field. With brightly lit drones zipping past thousands of guests, and projecting live FPV footage on giant LED screens, fans will feel like they’re watching a real-life video game while flying in the cockpit of a racing drone -- giving them a view of the stadium like never before.

“We are thrilled to be the first to host a Drone Racing League event of this caliber in the U.S.,” said Derrick Hall, D-backs President & CEO. “With the formation of Arizona Diamondbacks Events & Entertainment last year, bringing unique, non-baseball events such as DRL to Chase Field is exactly what we had hoped to do. DRL is a sport of the future and we are proud to offer this type of entertainment and one-of-a-kind experience at the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.”

As part of the 2019 DRL Allianz World Championship Season, which airs on NBC and Twitter this fall, Chase Field will play host to DRL’s first large-scale ticketed event in the U.S. Tickets will also grant attendees access to a family-friendly fan zone, featuring DRL’s first live Artificial Intelligence Robotic Racing (AIRR) Circuit event. In AIRR, autonomous DRL drones will race though the field, flown by AI technology developed by the 2019 Lockheed Martin AlphaPilot Team winning engineers.

“We are incredibly excited to bring the Drone Racing League to Chase Field on September 8th. Thousands of fans will have the unique opportunity to experience the sci-fi inspired sport, witnessing the intense pilot rivalry, adrenaline-packed crashes, and immersive FPV perspective of professional drone racing live in Phoenix,” said DRL CEO/Founder, Nicholas Horbaczewski.

DRL is the global, professional drone racing circuit for elite FPV (First Person View) pilots. Recognized internationally as the Sport of the Future, DRL combines world-class media and proprietary technology to create thrilling 3D drone racing content with mass appeal.
