Miami Marlins launch new foundation initiative, 'Ballpark Wishes' to celebrate local individuals and organizations

June 10th, 2019

MIAMI -- In recognition of the many extraordinary individuals and organizations that are making an impact in wellness and empowerment in our local community, the Miami Marlins Foundation launched Ballpark Wishes, a new initiative that honors and celebrates individuals or organizations at each Marlins home game this season. The Miami Marlins Foundation encourages fans to nominate those who inspire others or make a difference in the community, highlighting special categories each month:

June: Honor a Father or Service Member Making A Difference
July: Honor a Youth Making A Difference
August: Honor a Teacher or Student in support of Back to School
September: Honor an Individual who has been impacted by childhood cancer in support of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

“There are so many wonderful individuals and organizations that are making a difference in our South Florida community. Ballpark Wishes allows us to highlight their efforts and shine a light on their inspirational stories,” said Miami Marlins Foundation Executive Director Rocky Egusquiza. “Throughout the season, we will provide memorable experiences that show our gratitude for their great work.”

The Miami Marlins Foundation Ballpark Wishes program aims to increase awareness and inspire others by shining a light upon the contributions of selected nominees who are making a difference in our South Florida community. Nominees will be offered a special experience at Marlins Park and the opportunity to share their stories. Nominations are accepted online at Marlins.com/BallparkWishes.

In addition, the Miami Marlins Foundation will work with the following organizations Make-A-Wish Foundation, Austin Everett Foundation, and UMPS Care to fulfill nominations that will be sprinkled throughout each month as part of the Ballpark Wishes program.

The Miami Marlins today will celebrate the first honoree, Charles E., a high school student from Virginia who has persevered despite battling cancer. In partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Marlins fulfilled Charles’s wish of meeting Marlins CEO Derek Jeter. Charles admired Mr. Jeter’s hustle, competitiveness, and love for the game, which are a few of the traits Charles uses today in his battle against cancer. During tonight’s game, the Miami Marlins will host Charles for an exclusive ballpark experience, including an in-game recognition.
