Miami Marlins pitcher Dan Straily has received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch at Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants, while warnings were in place for both teams, in the bottom of the second inning of Tuesday night's game at AT&T Park in San Francisco. In addition, Marlins manager Don Mattingly has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for the intentional actions of Straily while warnings were in place. Joe Torre, Chief Baseball Officer for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Unless appealed, the suspension of Straily is scheduled to begin on Friday night, when the Marlins visit the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. If appealed, then the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete. If Straily chooses to appeal his discipline, Mattingly's suspension will be effective the same day that Straily begins to serve his suspension, if any.
