Phillies Weekend Series Against the Nationals (5/3-5): Celebrating All-Star Teachers (and the 1st Dog Educator!), Jimmy Rollins’ Retirement, Moms & More!

Get ready for another exciting matchup on May 3-5 as the Phillies take on the Washington Nationals for a three-game weekend series at Citizens Bank Park. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early to catch all of the on-field, pregame fan events. Limited tickets are available to Saturday’s and Sunday’s games.

1. On Friday, May 3, probable pitcher Jerad Eickhoff returns to the mound for that evening’s 7:05 p.m. game, which is also Teacher Appreciation Night powered by Constellation. Thousands of educators, along with their families and students, will be in attendance.

• Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Phillies top 10 All-Star Teachers, selected from hundreds of nominations, will be honored on the field. Click here to see the list of teachers being recognized, which includes Cole, the first dog educator to be an All-Star Teacher honoree! Cole, who is deaf, is a therapy dog from Dr. Mennies Elementary School in Vineland, N.J.

2. It’s Coca-Cola Jimmy Rollins Retirement Night on Saturday, May 4, before the 7:05 p.m. game with probable pitcher Jake Arrieta. Not only will fans 15 and over get a 2008 World Champions Replica Ring, but there’s also a special on-field ceremony in honor of one of the greatest players in franchise history. Also that evening, fans can take part in a meet and greet with alum Mickey Morandini, as well as enjoy pregame music at Pass and Stow. 

• Be in your seats by 6:30 p.m. as Jimmy Rollins officially retires as a Philadelphia Phillie. There will be surprises as part of the tribute for No. 11. 

Rollins spent 15 of his 17 seasons in the big leagues with the Phillies. He won the 2007 National League Most Valuable Player Award and is the Phillies all-time hits leader (2,306). Rollins made the NL All-Star team three times, won four Gold Glove Awards and one Silver Slugger Award. He famously called the Phillies the team to beat in the NL East in 2007.

• Every Saturday is Bud & Burger Night! Stop by Boardwalk Eats in the Left Field Plaza to enjoy specials on Budweisers and burgers, as well as meet 1993 National League Champion Mickey Morandini, 5:35 – 6:15 p.m. And don’t forget – 1980 World Series Champion Greg “The Bull” Luzinski is nearby at Bull’s BBQ, signing autographs for fans every game.

• Starting at 5:05 p.m., fans are invited to enjoy music at the new Pass and Stow adjacent to the Third Base Plaza, featuring DJ Chi Oriji. 

3. On Sunday, May 5 (traffic alert!), the team is celebrating all moms at Herr’s Mother’s Appreciation Day before that day’s 2:05 p.m. game with probable pitcher Zach Eflin. Women 15 and over will receive a Ladies Fleece Pullover. Plus, Petrina McCutchen, mom of outfielder Andrew McCutchen, will have the honor of performing “God Bless America” in the 7th inning. 

• Traffic advisory! The Broad Street Run is also this Sunday, May 5. Due to the size of the race, Broad Street and surrounding roads will be greatly impacted. Please be aware that much of Broad Street, both north-and-southbound will be closed to traffic (both vehicular and pedestrian) during periods of the race, with the southernmost part of Broad Street, including the ramps to and from I-95, re-opening by 12:15 p.m. Please make sure to monitor traffic during your travels Sunday morning to avoid any road closures and/or delays. Also, please note that due to the Sixers playoff game vs. Toronto, parking in the Wells Fargo Center Lots (Lots A-H) will be extremely limited.

• The Phillies’ pregame tribute honoring all moms begins at 1:35 p.m.! Be on the lookout for the Phanatic’s mom, Phoebe, who will be taking part in on-field events.

4. All weekend at Citizens Bank Park fans can take photos of Billy Joel’s piano, as well as check out game-used and signed memorabilia up for bid as part of the Phillies Charities, Inc. Auction benefitting the 2019 Phans Feeding Families initiative.

• Fans are invited to take photos with the Piano Man’s signature Steinway & Sons piano, which will be on display in the First Base elevator lobby. Limited Billy Joel merchandise will also be available outside of the lobby. The Billy Joel experience is in honor of his upcoming concert and stadium residency on May 24 at Citizens Bank Park. (He holds the record for the most live performances by any artist in the venue's 15-year history.)

• Bid on new and game-used autographed memorabilia (on display at the First Base Plaza) during the Phillies Charities, Inc. Auction via the MLB Ballpark app until May 31. Items include those signed by Jake Arrieta, Zach Eflin, Maikel Franco, Bryce Harper, César Hernández, Rhys Hoskins, Andrew Knapp, Andrew McCutchen, Aaron Nola, Odúbel Herrera, J.T. Realmuto and Nick Williams, as well as alumni Jimmy Rollins, Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts. The auction benefits Philabundance through the Phans Feeding Families initiative, aimed at feeding those who are at risk of hunger.

Other need-to-know information: 

• Gate Openings: Main gates open 1½ hours prior to game time every day. Ashburn Alley and a portion of the Third Base Gate granting access to Pass and Stow open 2 hours before every game. The entrance to Ashburn Alley is the Left Field Gate.

• Parking Lot Openings: All parking lots open 5 hours prior to game time.  

• Broadcast Information: Games on May 3-5 will be broadcast on NBCSP, 94 WIP and WTTM 1680 (Spanish), as well as available via live stream for authenticated subscribers on NBC Sports Philadelphia’s new MyTeams app.
