A’s claim C Beau Taylor off waivers from Toronto

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s claimed catcher Beau Taylor off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated catcher Chris Herrmann for assignment.

Taylor began the season in the Oakland organization and hit .182 with two home runs and two RBI in nine games over two stints with the A’s from June 8 to July 1 and July 31 to August 2. He also batted .257 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 62 games with Triple-A Las Vegas before he was designated for assignment Aug. 14. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter was claimed off waivers by Toronto Aug. 16 and went 0-for-2 in one game with the Blue Jays and 6-for-32 (.188) with four RBI in 10 games with Triple-A Buffalo before he was designated for assignment on Saturday.

Herrmann began the season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee March 8. He was reinstated from the IL July 2 and hit .310 over his first nine games before going 8-for-55 (.146) over his final 21 contests. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter batted .202 with a home run and eight RBI in 30 games overall with the A’s and is a .205 career hitter with 25 home runs and 103 RBI in 370 games over eight seasons in the majors.
