A’s Place DH Davis on Paternity List; Select IF Neuse from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed designated hitter Khris Davis on the paternity list and selected infielder Sheldon Neuse from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated left-handed pitcher Wei-Chung Wang for assignment.

 Davis is batting .221 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI in 110 games with the A’s. He was on the injured list from May 22 to 31 with a left hip/oblique contusion and homered just once over a 44-game span from June 19 to Aug. 20. Davis is 5-for-20 (.250) with two home runs and four RBI over his last six games.

 Neuse is batting .317 with a career-high 27 home runs and a career-high 102 RBI in 126 games with Las Vegas. He leads the Pacific Coast League in hits (158), is tied for third in RBI, ranks fourth in total bases (274) and runs (99), tied for eighth in doubles (31), and tied for 10th in extra base hits (60). The 24-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .339 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI in 44 games since he All-Star Break. Neuse has appeared in 96 games at third base, 16 at second base, nine at shortstop, six at designated hitter and three in left field. He was the second round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2016 and was traded to the A’s with Blake Treinen and Jesús Luzardo for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson on July 16, 2017. Neuse is a .294 hitter with 49 home runs and 247 RBI in 414 games over four seasons in the minors and will be making his Major League debut.

 Wang began the year at Las Vegas but also pitched in 20 games with Oakland from May 25 to Aug. 18, going 1-0 with a 3.33 ERA and .227 opponents batting average. He is 1-1 with a save, a 4.78 ERA and .276 opponents average in 19 relief appearances with the Aviators.
