A's Reinstate C Phegley from the IL; designate C Garneau for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated catcher Josh Phegley from the 10-day injured list and designated catcher Dustin Garneau for assignment, the club announced today.

Phegley was batting .243 with a career-high 10 home runs and a career-high 47 RBI in 82 games when he was placed on the injured list July 31 retroactive to July 29 with a left thumb contusion. He went 1-for-6 (.167) on a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 11 and 12 and was 2-for-5 last night at Single-A Stockton in a third rehab game.

Garneau was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels Aug. 3 and went 5-for-17 (.294) with a home run and seven RBI in seven games with the A’s. He also hit .232 with the Angels and is batting .244 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 35 games overall.
