HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros player development department has named its August Players of the Month, which are as follows:

FULL SEASON

Player of the Month: IF Jack Mayfield

Pitcher of the Month: RHP Cristian Javier

SHORT SEASON

Player of the Month: C Nerio Rodriguez

Pitcher of the Month: RHP Jairo Lopez

Mayfield, 28, batted .292 (28x96) with three doubles, one triple, eight homers, 27 RBI and a .918 OPS (.324 OBP/.594 SLG) in 24 games in August at Triple A Round Rock. On Aug. 16 vs. Oklahoma City, Mayfield went 3x5 with three home runs and six RBI. In 100 games with Round Rock this season, Mayfield has hit .287 with 26 doubles, one triple, 26 homers, 79 RBI and a .916 OPS (.350 OBP/.566 SLG).

Javier, 22, split his August between Triple A Round Rock (2g) and Double A Corpus Christi (3g), combining to go 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA (3ER/24IP), nine walks and 42 strikeouts. The right-handed pitcher has had a breakout season, posting an 8-3 record with a 1.74 ERA (22ER/113.2IP) and 170 strikeouts in 26 games (18 starts) between three levels of the Astros minor league system. Javier began his season at Class A Advanced Fayetteville, before receiving promotions to Double A Corpus Christi (May 15) and Triple A Round Rock (Aug. 23).

Rodriguez, 19, played in 16 games with the GCL Astros in August, batting .268 (15x56) with seven doubles, two homers, 11 RBI and an .859 OPS. Now in his third season in the Astros system, Rodriguez has posted a career-best .833 OPS in 31 games on the year with the GCL Astros.

Lopez, 18, earned his second-consecutive Astros Short Season Pitcher of the Month award after going 2-2 with a 1.61 ERA (4ER/22.1IP) and 31 strikeouts in six games (two starts) at Class A Short Season Tri-City.
