Celebrating Ryan Howard, plus fireworks shows at Phillies-Nationals weekend series, 7/12-7/14

July 11th, 2019

Come cheer on the Phillies as they take on division-rival Washington Nationals on Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14 at Citizens Bank Park! Limited tickets are available. Here’s a quick look at some of the fan fun surrounding this weekend series:

1. Friday’s game at 6:05 p.m. features the first Xfinity Postgame Fireworks Show! Be sure to stay at the ballpark after the game as the Phillies host the ultimate fireworks show.

2. The fun continues at Saturday’s 7:15 p.m. game, featuring another Xfinity Postgame Fireworks Show! Also, it’s Bud & Burger Night with drink specials and autographs with a former Phillie. Plus, “Mr. Trumpet” performs the national anthem as part of his Anthem Across America Tour.

• From 5:35 - 6:45 p.m., stop by Boardwalk Eats in the Left Field Plaza to enjoy specials on Budweisers and burgers, as well as meet 1993 National League Champion Mickey Morandini.

• Jim Doepke, also known as “Mr. Trumpet,” will perform the national anthem during his Anthem Across America Tour, in which he has the personal goal of playing the anthem at every Major League Baseball park in the country.

3. Get to the ballpark early on Sunday, July 14, for PECO Ryan Howard Retirement Day, taking place before the 1:05 p.m. game (gates open at 11:05 a.m. that day). The Big Piece, who spent his entire major league career with the Phillies, is the third and final 2008 World Champion to be honored at Citizens Bank Park this season.

• Be in your seats by 12:30 p.m., as the Phillies celebrate the career of Ryan Howard, one of the greatest players to ever don red pinstripes. Howard is one of nine players in franchise history to have played his entire major league career with the club (minimum seven years) and the first since Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt retired in 1989. The club’s all-time single-season home run leader with 58 in 2006, Howard made three All-Star Games, won a Silver Slugger Award and won Rookie of the Year (2005) and MVP (2006) in consecutive seasons. He ranks second in Phillies history in both home runs (382) and RBI (1,194), trailing only Schmidt in both categories.

• All fans will receive a Ryan Howard Bobble Figurine, compliments of PECO. In addition, kids 14 and under will receive a book from Ryan Howard’s Little Rhino children’s book series. The PECO Ryan Howard Retirement Day ceremony will be live on phillies.com. Fans can also watch live on the team’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

• Limited edition merchandise commemorating Ryan Howard’s retirement is available at the New Era Phillies Team Store and other ballpark retail locations. Also at the New Era Team Store, be sure to check out the New Era hat wall, which has been transformed into an American flag design!

4. Here’s your chance to bid on new and game-used memorabilia signed by Ryan Howard, as well as current players Bryce Harper, Scott Kingery, Rhys Hoskins and more at the Phillies Charities, Inc. Auction! Bid via the MLB Ballpark App until July 19. Featured items will be on display at the First Base Plaza the entire weekend.
