D-backs recall Bo Takahashi from Double-A Jackson

Optioned Stefan Crichton to Triple-A Reno

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled RHP Bo Takahashi (@botakahashi) from Double-A Jackson. Following last night’s game, the D-backs optioned RHP Stefan Crichton to Triple-A Reno.

Takahashi, 22, will be making his Major League debut and will wear No. 52. The 2019 Southern League midseason All-Star went 8-6 with a 3.87 ERA (46 ER in 107.0 IP), .245 opponent average, 93 strikeouts and 36 walks in 21 starts for the Generals in 2019, including holding right-handed hitters to a .215 average. He went 4-3 with a 3.60 ERA (22 ER in 55.0 IP), 45 strikeouts and 19 walks in 12 starts during the first half of the season.

A native of Presidente Prudente, Brazil, he will become the first Brazil-born player to play for the D-backs and the sixth overall to reach the Majors, joining C Yan Gomes, RHP Andre Rienzo, OF Paulo Orlando, RHP Thyago Viera and LHP Luiz Gohara.

The 6-foot-0, 225-pounder has gone 38-33 with a 4.18 ERA (258 ER in 555.1 IP), .245 opponent average, 485 strikeouts and 179 walks in 112 games (104 starts) over 6 Minor League seasons in the D-backs’ organization (2014-19). He was named a 2017 California League midseason All-Star and pitched for Team Brazil in the 2017 World Baseball Classic qualifier. He signed as a non-drafted free agent on December 23, 2013.

Crichton, 27, has posted a 4.05 ERA (9 ER in 20.0 IP) with a .216 opponent average, 18 strikeouts and 5 walks in 15 appearances for Arizona in 2019.
